The term metamodernism was first used by author Mas’ud Zavarzadeh in 1975. The metamodern movement is a reaction to the postmodern and modern schools of thought, and it seeks to subvert the overwhelming irony, cynicism, insincerity and deconstruction of postmodern culture and though. Metamodernism seeks to achieve romanticism and sincerity and defeat the nihilism that has pervaded our culture and mode of thinking without losing what we learned from postmodernism.

The Metamodernist is a blog that focuses on reaching this goal. We aim to look at culture, current events, ideas and art through a more romantic, sincere and honest lens than is often found in todays world of postmodernity.
